Area rug cleaning questions, answered
The questions we are asked most, grouped by where you are in the process. If yours is not here, call or text 604-799-9985 — we would rather answer directly than have you guess. For deeper explanations of the underlying mechanisms, see the rug care guides.
General questions
- Do you clean anything other than area rugs?
- Area rugs are our specialization. If your enquiry is about wall-to-wall carpet or hard surfaces, call us and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.
- Are you based in Chilliwack?
- Yes. iRPro Rugs is locally owned and operated in Chilliwack, and we serve communities across the Fraser Valley.
- How long does cleaning take?
- Typical turnaround is 5–8 business days from pickup to delivery, depending on the rug and our volume at the time of booking. Heavily soiled rugs, natural fibres and rugs needing extended drying can take longer — we tell you at pickup if we expect that.
- Do you offer pickup and delivery?
- Yes — we call it door-to-door transport. Door-to-door transport is included at no charge in Chilliwack. Outside Chilliwack, a flat round-trip transport fee applies, covering travel time and fuel. Outlying communities are collected on scheduled route days. Chilliwack $0, Abbotsford / Agassiz & Harrison $55, Mission / Hope $75, Langley $95, round trip.
- Can you guarantee every stain will come out?
- No, and we won't pretend otherwise. Some stains are dye loss or permanent fibre damage rather than soil. We assess before cleaning and tell you what is realistic.
- What is your guarantee?
- We offer a 60-day satisfaction guarantee on our cleaning. If something was missed, contact us within 60 days and we will address it.
- How do I get an estimate?
- Call or text 604-799-9985, or send photos and dimensions through our estimate form. A photo estimate is preliminary — final pricing and method are confirmed on inspection.
- Do you repair rugs?
- Our service is cleaning. We assess and document damage such as moth activity, fringe loss, dry rot and structural wear, and we will tell you when a rug needs a specialist repair service rather than cleaning.
Before you book
- How do I know what my rug is made of?
- You often don't, and that's fine — we identify fibre at intake using burn, feel, solubility and construction indicators. If the label survives, bring it. A photo of the back of the rug tells us more than the front does.
- Should I clean the rug myself first?
- No. Home spot removers and rented machines frequently leave residues, set stains through heat, or push contamination deeper. If you have already tried something, just tell us what you used.
- My rug smells but looks fine. Is cleaning worth it?
- Usually yes, and often it is urgent. Odour that persists without visible soiling generally means contamination in the foundation or backing, which surface cleaning cannot reach.
- Can you clean a rug with a rubber or latex backing?
- Sometimes. Aged latex backings can crumble or delaminate when wet. We assess the backing at intake and tell you the risk before proceeding.
- Do I need a rug pad?
- A quality pad extends rug life considerably — it reduces abrasion from the floor, prevents slipping and improves airflow underneath. Avoid cheap adhesive-backed pads, which can bond to hardwood finishes.
While we have your rug
- Where is my rug cleaned?
- At our facility, never in your home. Rinsing and controlled drying are not possible in a living room, and those two steps determine whether a cleaning holds up.
- Will you tell me before doing extra work?
- Always. If inspection reveals contamination, damage or a condition that changes the price or the method, you get photos and a revised figure before we continue.
- Can I visit the facility?
- Call ahead and we will arrange a time. We would rather show you the process than describe it.
- What if my rug is oversized?
- Oversized rugs are handled routinely, but they take more facility space and longer drying time. Mention the size when you call so we can schedule accordingly.
- Do you clean the fringe?
- Yes, where it is safe to do so. Fringe is usually the rug's foundation warp rather than an attachment, so it is cleaned carefully by hand. Some yellowing is oxidised cellulose that will not fully whiten.
After delivery
- How long until I can walk on the rug?
- The rug is returned fully dry, so it is ready for use immediately. If you notice any dampness on delivery, tell us before we leave.
- Why does my rug still have a faint odour in humid weather?
- Urine salts are hygroscopic — they attract moisture, and residual traces can reactivate odour in humidity. Thorough flushing removes the vast majority, but severely saturated foundations may not be fully odour-free.
- How should I maintain the rug now?
- Vacuum regularly without a beater bar on delicate fibres, rotate the rug periodically to even out wear and light exposure, blot spills immediately rather than rubbing, and use a quality pad.
- What if I'm not happy with the result?
- Contact us within 60 days. Our satisfaction guarantee covers our cleaning work — if something was missed, we address it.
- When should I have it cleaned again?
- It depends on traffic, pets and footwear habits rather than a fixed schedule. We give you a recommendation at delivery based on what we found in your rug.
Questions we can't answer without seeing the rug
Whether a specific stain will come out, whether a dye will hold, whether an odour will fully clear, and whether an aged backing will survive a wash are all questions that require testing. Anyone answering them confidently from a photograph is guessing. We give you a realistic range from photos and a definite answer after inspection.
